The foundation programme is an introductory course that gives students a firm scientific foundation. Students who have no prior science background or who want to improve their present knowledge typically take it. Anatomy, biochemistry, microbiology, genetics, and cell biology are among the topics covered in the health sciences foundation course. Laboratory exercises and field trips will allow students to learn more about the subject. The programme is available in two formats: full-time for two years and part-time for one year. The foundation curriculum is a one-year course that prepares students to pursue science disciplines by providing them with the essential information and abilities.

In Malaysia, respected institutions offer the foundation programme course. After finishing the programme, students are eligible to enrol in science-based courses at public universities, private institutions, institutes, or colleges of education. In Malaysia, students can study science in two different ways. The first is a Bachelor of Science (BSc) or Bachelor of Science in Education (BSEd), which most students opt for since it often leads to greater career prospects and higher pay. A Science Foundation Program is another option (SFP). A SFP gives a wide science background, as well as maths and English language training. This two-year programme leads to admission to the Malaysian Institute of Science Education and Research (MISER).

The program’s goal is to raise scientific and social awareness. The Bursary is awarded to students enrolled in the programme to assist them with registering for classes. The Science Foundation Program’s foundation course is an introductory course for students who have never studied science in secondary school. Malaysian state universities and polytechnics provide the Foundation Health Science Course. It is provided part-time, with students attending lectures throughout the week and working in laboratories or conducting field projects on weekends, all while completing their studies. The SKF Bursary was established in 2014 to provide financial assistance to students who are interested in enrolling in the foundation course.
